Glossy Paper Necklace - long

This necklace is made from beads of glossy paper from old calendars and brochures, with glass seed beads interspersed. Varnished to a high-gloss, each paper bead looks like a polished stone or wood. The paper is cut in long triangles and rolled to form the beads — wide, short strips for narrow beads and long, thin strips for fat beads. Each necklace varies in length and has a plastic screw-in clasp. An average piece is approximately 40 inches long, long enough for a double loop. Colours will vary. Gourd not included. Teenage Mothers and Girls Association of Kenya (TEMAK) is an organization working for the rescue, rehabilitation and economic empowerment of girls and young women. Their programmes focus on helping solve the problems of HIV/AIDS infected children, their parents (often teenage girls who are single), orphans, the poor and the destitute of the community. TEMAK has its centre in Tom Mboya Estate, Kisumu where multiple programmes have been initiated over the past dozen years to support the destitute.
